Lady Captain’s Report

LADY CAPTAIN’S REPORT MAY 2019

Dear Ladies

Open Day (seems a long time ago now) saw a really good turnout and I even managed to hit a straight drive off the 10th tee for the Captain’s Drive In!
A few weeks later we had Charity Day which seemed to be enjoyed by all who took part. As usual the ladies stepped up to produce an amazing half-way house which along with the £250 raised on the tombola totalled over £500. The golf was followed by a meal and auction which brought the total for the day up to over £2000 which is absolutely brilliant. Many thanks to all who helped make the day so successful.
Grace Norman – we won our first match again The Gogs but unfortunately were defeated by Ely at home.
Jean Wilkinson – so far we have won against Lakeside at home, been defeated by Newmarket away, halved the match against Lakeside away and lost to St Neots away having played the match in torrential rain. We have 2 matches left to play, St Neots home and Newmarket at home.
Julia Gray, Christine King, Janice Topham and myself won the Open at Theydon Bois, Sally Barnes, Lesley Miller, Pat Watson and Mary Hubbard came 2nd at Lakeside Open and Paula Offer along with Dawn Hackshall won the Leighton Buzzard Open. Division 1 resulted in Ann Burbidge & Dawn Hackshall winning the foursomes in the afternoon with Kim Morley & Diane Amps coming 2nd. In the County Championships at Links Newmarket, as always it was great show from Bourn again, with Dawn Hackshall & Donna Griffin getting into the top 16, unfortunately neither to get through the first knockout round. Paula beat Diane in the quarter final of the Plate competition but again unfortunately Paula was beaten in the semi-final.
Forthcoming Events: Karen Stanton is in the process of arranging a Beetle Drive on Friday 14th June, £10 a ticket to include a light meal. It should be a really fun evening for all the family so keep your eyes open for more details. She has also circulated details of other events that we are planning.
There is also a list for people sign up if they are happy to ‘Buddy’ new members and show them where to sign up for competitions, use the PSI etc.
Lastly, please remember to send you recipes in to Kim for the cookbook by the end of the month. k.morley@btinternet.com.
Happy golfing and good health.

LADY CAPTAIN’S REPORT MARCH 2019

Dear Ladies

I can’t believe I’m already in my 4th month as Lady Captain.

The Jan/Feb Roll-ups seem to have gone down really well with lots of people taking part.

The Feb fun competitions didn’t work out quite as well as I hoped – not a good choice of format on my part and definitely not one to be repeated!! Having said that, congratulations to Eileen Simmonds and Jackie Summerfield who were the Sat & Tuesday winners.

The changing rooms are pretty much finished now with just the windows and ventilation needing to be installed. I’ve been told the windows are being put in sometime over the next couple of weeks. Many thanks to Karen Stanton for covering the boards, to Joyce Grimes for covering the 2 desk chairs and to Deb Foster for providing the new clock.

County Competitions: The Grace Norman vs Gog Magog is being played at Bourn on Sun 17th March at 10.30 and the first round of the Jean Wilkinson is being played on Monday 1st April vs Lakeside also at home.

The sign-up sheet is now up for my Away Weekend at the Nottinghamshire on the 12th & 13th May so hopefully the weather will be fine as it really is a beautiful course. Lovely to see so many of you have already signed up.

Congratulations to Paula Offer, Maria Virgo and Alli Jarrett who played with Mark Sturgess in the Beds & Cambs PGA Pro Am at John O’Gaunt and came a very creditable second place. Well done girls.

Karen Stanton is busy planning some social events, details to follow.

For those who came to the Quiz night last year we are repeating this again on Sept 28th in aid of the Captains’ Charity. It’s definitely a quiz with a difference and great fun. The Ladies Section are also producing a 2nd edition cook book to raise funds for the charity so please could you send in your recipes to Kim Morley (k.morley@btinternet.com) by the end of May.

If you have any golf-related news please let me know.

Kindest regards
Catie
